How much does a burial insurance policy cost?
Burial insurance costs vary widely based on your age, your sex, your current health, your health history, where you live, and a host of other factors. Your premium payments are also dependent on what type of policy you select as well as the amount of your death benefit payout. Lifestyle choices may also affect your premiums. For example, if you are a smoker, an alcoholic, or you have a history of heart disease in your family, you will probably have to pay higher than average premiums. If you have none of these issues, or you’re toward the young end of the burial insurance age range (typically 50 to 80), you will probably pay less. Many insurance companies will not offer burial insurance to individuals aged 85 and older. If you are close to this age already, you may still be able to get insurance, but your premiums will be higher than average.
How long does a burial insurance policy last?
Burial and final expense insurance policies last until the policyholder dies. Immediately after the policyholder’s death, the specified beneficiary will be paid in cash by the insurance company. Burial and final expense policies do not expire. They may only be canceled in the case of the policyholder refusing to pay premiums or in the case of fraud by the insurance company.
