Cigna

Cigna is a worldwide health services organization that was formed in 1982. It is a major provider of medical, dental, disability, accident, and life insurance. Cigna’s Whole Life Insurance division offers plans that may be used as final expense or burial insurance, with death benefits ranging from $2,000 to $25,000. The whole life plans are available to qualified individuals between the ages of 50 and 85, and the plan premiums are guaranteed to never increase for as long as you have the insurance.

Cigna offers two benefit plans, a Level Benefit Plan and a Modified Benefit Plan. The primary difference is that the latter receives an extra 10% of the premium paid when death benefits are paid out. Cigna also allows both you and your spouse to apply for policies and thus qualify for a five percent premium discount. Cigna’s website states that its whole life plans can be had for as low as $28 per month, though your rate will likely vary based on a number of factors including the plan you select, your location, your sex, and whether or not you are a tobacco user.

Can I cancel a burial insurance policy?

You cannot usually cancel a burial insurance policy. The only exception to this rule is in the event of fraud on the part of your insurance company. You may decide to stop paying your monthly or annual insurance premiums, in which case your burial policy will be voided by the insurance company. However, you will not be eligible for a refund of any premium payments that you’ve already made.

Will a funeral home accept payment with burial insurance?

Burial and final expense insurance typically pays the beneficiary in a lump-sum cash settlement. Therefore, no restrictions exist with regard to how the beneficiary may use the cash settlement.

Can I get burial insurance even if I have health issues?

Final expense and burial insurance policies exist to help individuals with illnesses that aren’t life-threatening. Typically it is easier to purchase burial insurance than it is to purchase life insurance. Life insurance policies are intended for longer time periods and usually offer higher payouts. They also have higher monthly and annual premiums. However, there are some terminal health conditions which will prevent you from buying burial insurance through most insurance companies. To see if you qualify, you’ll need to research the insurance companies in your local area in order to find out which one meets your particular needs. If you cannot find a local company that will cover you due to illness, you may also want to check online for an insurance company that may offer death benefits.
